Scottish Universities Press
SCURL member libraries are collaborating in an exciting new venture to establish a publishing press that is owned and managed by the participating HEIs. The press aims to provide a clear and cost-effective route for researchers to make their work freely available to a global audience, meeting the requirements of funders and realising the government ambition to extend the impact of research across society.
The project responds to recent developments in the OA landscape such as the publication of the UKRI Policy, REF requirements and the principles of PlanS. It also recognises that the options for facilitating OA from commercial publishers can be both complex and costly. SUP aims to offer a clear route to a professional standard of publishing on a not-for-profit basis.
The press will initially focus on publishing monographs during the initial two-year pilot phase, with a view to extending coverage to other types of content.
The development of the press will be led by a management board formed from library staff at participating HEIs. An editorial board will be manage the publishing output, including the peer review process.
The project will be supported by member contributions and has also been awarded funded from the Scottish Library and Information Council’s Innovation and Development Fund.
